A 62-year-old man was home last night when a car crashed through the roof of his house on Hindman street in Port Macquarie.

Police say that at about 9:30pm on Tuesday (February 25) the vehicle became airborne after ploughing through a safety barrier and boundary fence, before smashing into the roof.

There were no injuries, but the damage to the house was described by police as “extensive”.

Emergency services responded, and police claim the driver, a 38-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle for about 25 minutes.

Police have alleged the man refused to undergo a breath test. He was arrested by officers from the Mid North Coast Police District and taken to Port Macquarie Hospital to undergo a blood test.

He was later released without charge pending further inquiries.
