Meet the Versace Boys: Bringing pop ballads to Bellingen's River Sounds Festival

River Sounds Festival is back in Bellingen on Saturday, April 5, so we sat down with the two artists behind The Versace Boys ahead of their performance.

Whether they’re realigning their chakras, taking their exes to court or pretending to be vegan, The Versace Boys have a knack for the flamboyant and they are bringing their big energy show to the upcoming River Sounds Festival in Bellingen on April 5.

While the boys (Will and Coasty) are currently based in the Byron region, Will’s connection to Bellingen–where he grew up–remains strong, often returning to refresh and reconnect in the pristine waters of the Promised Lands and surfing the local breaks.

“Whenever I need a break from music, I head back to Bellingen because that’s where two of my mothers live and where I grew up,” Will told the Mid North Coaster.

“I love to go out to the promised lands, go surfing at Valla, catch up at Liberty Providores with all my schoolmates and cook bulk dinners for my grandma.”

The boys spend their weekdays in the studio making musical creations that fuse multiple genres together, singing about the mundane and taboo in a way that is reminiscent of The Flight of the Conchords

Hooks like “I’m a vegan, but I eat chicken on the weekend” and “I’m gonna take half your house, and all your money” will make you laugh and wanna get moving at the same time, and although they spend a lot of time creating their art, once a week they tap into their business side and have a “Versace Hustle Day”, talking labels, tours and booking festivals, all from Will’s home studio, “Soggy Bottoms” in Mullumbimby.

2024 was a stellar year for Versace Boys– dropping an album, signing a record deal and performing festivals like Strawberry Fields, Party in the Paddock and Island Vibes– with 2025 bringing big things for the designers boys of Byron.

Will said: “The next six months are looking very exciting. We’re talking to some of Australia’s biggest Booking agents at the moment, and two of Australia’s biggest managers.

“We have almost finished one EP and we’re working on a second that we can’t wait to release with some summer festivals.”

Excited at the prospect of playing a home town festival, the boys are keen to get back to Bellingen and drop into a few of their favourite haunts and catch up with some of their musical mates.

“Keen to see our buddy ‘Lttle Kng’ and our mates from ‘Tropical Punch’ while we're home, and we’ll probably drop into the Bellingen Brewery and have a spiced margarita or two and if the surf is on maybe catch a wave at Arrawarra or Scotts Head,” Will said.

If you are around Bellingen on Saturday, get along to River Sounds Festival and catch these guys doing their thing.
