Word on the street: Port Macquarie local says housing affordability will be a deciding factor in election

The Mid North Coaster is speaking with people across the region, asking them about the issues that will sway their vote ahead of this year's federal election.

In the last few weeks, we’ve been taking to the streets to ask Mid North Coast residents about the issues that will be deciding their vote for the upcoming election on May 3.

Cost of living, the homelessness crisis, and renewable energy are just some of the issues we’ve heard so far.

On the pavements of Port Macquarie, a young voter told the Mid North Coaster improving housing affordability would be the “central issues” driving his choices.

“I think people being able to live securely and comfortably…while it might be difficult, I don’t think it’s too much to ask either,” he said.

The interviewee spoke about the difficulty his family recently experienced trying to buy a home in Port Macquarie with the rising cost of living.
